COLLECTION: Board Games

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

Playing games are one of my favorite ways to spend time with family.  Games are fun.  They can lift your spirits.  They make you feel happy.  They can bring out the competitive side in you.  They are challenging.  They make you laugh.  My family is definitely a game family and we LOVE to get loud!!

We are always prepared to play a board game, whip out a deck of cards, reach for a dominoes set and even bring out Jenga!  Today I wanted to share some of my favorite board games (plus one that Victoria introduced me to at her blog) in lieu of not being able to play any in a while!!

From left to right, top to bottom we have Cranium, Taboo, Pit, Loaded Questions and Mad Gab. Recently we just bought Clue, which I haven't played since I was a kid so it'll be fun to play (hopefully later on this week).

What do you do for fun with your family?  Do you play any games with them, and if so which ones?? I'm always interested in trying new games.  Let me know in the comments below!

xoxo, Aukele

  1. I love, love, LOVE playing Catch Phrase- I'm a sucker for a good game. i think Catch Phrase is fun for me because it allows me to be loud and obnoxious.

  2. Growing up, Taboo was a favorite one to play when we had friends and family over!

And for some reason, I always forget that board games exist. I don't think I own ANY and yet, I'm the most competitive when it comes time to play them! :)

  3. Can we all just forget real life, go and meet up somewhere for a week and have a ball!! Go pick up some games girl!! Once we had at least 20 family members together, separated into two teams playing Taboo and we all still have memories from that game that we'll bring up and laugh about till this day!! Even though my fam (and you) is super competitive - somehow it magically brings us together, all enjoying each other's company instead of being glued to our phones!!

  4. I love all of those! Except Loaded Questions; I've never played that so I'll have to check it out! :) I love Scattergories and ImagineIff. Scattergories is great because the words people come up with is hilarious and ImagineIff is all about imagining what people playing the game would do in different situations. It's pretty funny finding out what your family thinks you will do! :)

  5. Yes, I think as I've gotten older, I've gotten more analytical. In recent years, if I didn't see the "point" in something, I figured: why do it? I'm learning that some things have the point of just BEING FUN and that's it. THAT'S ALL. And that's okay! It doesn't have to be some higher purpose or anything -- it can truly just be enjoyable and that's okay. I know that may sound weird, but haha, I think that's why I don't have board games. But you're right -- some awesome memories can be made. I'll have to think about this/remember it for the family reunion!

  6. For sure! ImagineIff sounds a little similar to Loaded Questions, but with LQ people answer questions then someone else has to get what answer belongs to who! You should def try it :)

  7. My family is ALL about board games- I'll have to take a picture of the wall of board games in my parents' dining room- we never get bored! I love Loaded Questions. We also love this game called Quelf, which is utterly bizarre, and one time had me slow dancing with my dad, and had my younger brother talking like a pirate with a girly voice. I love Balderdash because I'm usually pretty good at it when I play with my family (it's all about knowing how the other players think). Okay, now I'm excited for my family get-together on Sunday!

  8. Oh please do! That would be so fun. When you play Loaded Questions do you ever come across a round when people say the same thing?? I love when that happens! One time 4 of us were playing, and the three answers were all the same, go figure! Haha. I need to check those two out because I've never played them!

  9. My family doesn't play games as often as I'd like to but whenever we do I have a GREAT time! My favorite game is Clue and I'm also a sucker for the movie. I'm a big fan of mystery novels too, so I think it's the whole mystery theme and being able to play a detective. I hope you and your family have fun playing it!
