5 Ways to Brighten Your Day

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

Happy Wednesday!  My weekly wish this week is to help others.  With that in mind I thought I would share 5 things that will brighten my day that would probably brighten yours too.  Keep in mind that brightening your day isn’t always about you.  One of the biggest blessings for me is to know that I made someone else smile and that I lifted up someone else’s spirits, so this is a combination of ways to brighten your day doing things for you and others.

1. Do a beauty treatment at home.
I am definitely a girly girl, and so I love a good pampering at home (and in the salon)!  Face treatments, eyes, hands, legs.  Anything and everything – it is so relaxing for me and puts me in a calm and happy place.

2. Decorate a paperweight.
Expressing art and creativity is a great way to take time for yourself, let your creative energy flow and to get those happy endorphins going.  I love to have cute desk accessories, even as simple as a paperweight.  Take a look at these fun rock art DIYs to make cheap and trendy paperweights for your desk at home or in the office.

3. Read a book outside.
There is no doubt about it that nature can bring a peace and calm to our lives.  Pairing it with a comfy blanket and a good book just seems like a great idea, don’t you think.  Jet away to another place with a book under a tree and come away from it being in a happier mental state.

4. Do a random act of kindness.
There is nothing like giving to people (just because), to brighten your day.  If you’re shy like myself, accomplishing this task would prove to brighten your day even more being proud of yourself to be BOLD like that!  Read this list for ideas on what you can do today!

5. Call a relative.
When is the last time you had a good conversation with a grandparent, aunty/uncle, cousin, sibling?  Call one of them up just to check on them and see how they are doing.  Find out what is going on in their life and share what has been happening in yours.  I’m sure they would be thrilled to receive a call from you to let them know you’re thinking of them.
What are some ways you like to BRIGHTEN your day??  Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Oooh, what a list of wonderful suggestions! I love this Kele! And I want to incorporate some more into my life, like #3 (which I may do today!) and #5. I sometimes don't like the phone, but I could replace that with a nice "thinking of you" note! Thanks for this! :)

  2. Aukele, I love #3! I mean, reading is kind of an obsession of mine, but something magical happens when I read a book under my favorite tree with the blue sky above me. It helps to completely transport me. Love this list!

  5. I treat myself to a special dessert- a donut from VooDoo or ice cream from Ruby Jewel. Giving myself something out of the ordinary, while also taking myself out, can make my day brighter.

  13. Yes! RAOK are definitely a challenge for me, simply because I am a shy person. It is a struggle, but when I get the nerve to do it, it's AMAZING! And yes, a little shower time is great for rejuvenation! Thanks for the comment, Lix!
