14 Favorite Posts from 2014

Wednesday, December 31, 2014

Guys - I'm actually posting a #trending type post, when it is actually trending! :-)  I haven't done a round up in quite a while so it seems only natural to close out the year with my top fourteen favorite posts from 2014!  Let's get this party started...

1) That time I came back to blogging and LOST 23 POUNDS after the horror that we'll call the 2013 breakup...

2) When I finally figured out the difference between happiness and joy!

 3) When I shared that even though someone may be head over heels for you, doesn't mean you should stop be head over heels for yourself as well!

4) A little catch up on life!

5) On controlling your tongue.

6) I was cravings for sprinkle cookies and couldn't find any in the store, so I made my own!

7) When I decided to get fancy and decorate a planter! PS: The plant is still living!!!

8) When I needed something to blog about and came up with an HONESTLY list, to celebrate National Honesty Day!

9) Because this blog hasn't been a big priority this year and yall needed something to do while I got my act together - uh which hasn't happened yet!

10) 20 Things you might not have known about me...

11) My six secrets to keeping lifelong friendships

12) Taking a little ownership and embracing my bass

13) Learning from the past and loving better!

14)  A word to the wise - thinking out loud.

And there you go... my favorite posts from 2014!  I hope I can churn out better and more fulfilling content in 2015.  I think doing this exercise and going through my posts from the past year really got my gears going as far as what I'd like to accomplish with this blog in 2015 and where I'd like to go from here!! Stay tuned because 2015 is going to be very exciting!! :)

Happy New Year! (again) :)

xoxo, Aukele

Lately...

Tuesday, December 30, 2014

Lately I’ve been doing a lot of resting.  I’m just super fatigued and all I want to do is sleep sleep sleep!!!  Christmas was really great!  Started a little too early for my liking – um where is the sun? But, I wouldn’t have had it any other way  :) <3.  Watching the kids find out they were going to Disneyland was a definite highlight of the day, but of course you all know my highlight had to of been spending some QT time with that special guy.  Don't forget to follow my instagram to see all the latest happenings!

On Saturday I was able to take Kaimana to the “dirty dog garage” so he could get a nice warm bath in a temperature controlled environment.  He was way dirty, and the Aiea winds just did not let up.  I also went to the farmers market to pick up some haulolo, green papaya and other veggies I needed to make Chicken Papaya – a local favorite that was perfect for the cool weather.

Speaking of cooking, lately I’ve been on a kick in the kitchen.  Chicken Pasta, Steamed Moi, Chicken Papaya, Pork Chops, Guacamole, Breakfast Burritos.  I need to do something with bananas tonight before they go bad – so if you have any suggestions…. Holler at a girl!

This week I’m just gearing up for another exhausting week with early wake up calls, but thankfully next week we’ll be back to normal and back to the normal routine – which I CANNOT wait for!! PLUSSSSSS that means it’ll be January and I’ll be that much closer to my big reveal I can’t wait to share with you all still.  Like literally I’m itching to put it all out there, but just a few more weeks or so!

HAUOLI MAKAHIKI HOU!!! (Happy New Year)!  Be safe my friends, see you in 2015!

Oh Hi There!

Monday, December 22, 2014

And then I had promised you all a whole bunch of Christmas posts this season and where in the heck did the time go?  Slipped right from under me into who knows what.  That’s where it went.

This month has been so busy and I’ve been so tired, I’m literally ready to knock out at one-thirty in the afternoon – but you know there is this thing called work, and that long drive home in traffic, and then making dinner and yada-yada.  I wish I could say I’d be able to sleep in on Christmas, but there is no rest for the weary.  I think that’s the line anyway.

I’m in a rush to push out 4 scarves before Christmas.  Doubt it’ll happen though.  A bunch of my family is taking a trip to Disneyland and so I wanted to send them all with scarves – but then that exhaustion just takes over all-day Saturday and that time thing, right?

We went to the beach yesterday, which was nice since today is cloudy and rainy.  The water was FREEZING!!!  Literally we were in there for two minutes and out.  Good thing the sun was out and we warmed up rather quickly.

2015 can’t get here any sooner.  I’m literally waiting for it to be the New Year already.  One of my friends is moving back home, so I’m excited about that.  And then the middle of January is just going to be one big celebration and a big reveal coming, which I’m literally on the edge of my seat waiting to tell all of you!

Merry Christmas everyone!!! Have a fabulous week.

My favorite cake is Dobash!  However, this one looks really damn good!  Usually I'm a frosting girl to the fullest, but this cake looks so decadent and chocolatey I need it right now :)

Thinking Out Loud

Tuesday, December 2, 2014

This blog has always been a reflection of my life.  I’ve loved sharing fun stories with you over the past year and a half and the experiences I’ve gone through.  There are some really exciting things that will be happening in 2015 that I would love to share with you all – but sometimes life calls for a bit of privacy, especially to protect the ones you love most and that mean the most to you.  So purposefully – for a while, this blog will be a bit vague.  And while I hate it and really want to gush a thousand details to you all, just know that one day I’ll be a free bird again!

To the friends that I’ve made blogging that are reading this – please feel free to email me anytime and we can definitely catch up on life and chit-chat.  Because you know.. I’m a girl.  And we love sharing in the details.

This is by no means sayonara.  It’s just more of a cutting back on having to share the details of my personal life for a little while for all the world to see.

With that said, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! I hope you all have a wonderful season.  It’s already been incredible for me.

And on an up note. I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS SONG!!!  You need to go and listen to it pronto!

And.. here is the official video...

A Thankful Heart

Thursday, November 27, 2014

Wow what a year!  To think about where I was in life this time last year and where I am now - it is just crazy.  I have so many things to be thankful for this year and I just feel very blessed.  I left 2013 completely broken and hurt and I'm finishing off 2014 very blessed and excited for what is to come in the new year.  I really want to spill the details - but I'll hold my breath for now.

I am thankful for family.  They have been so amazing to me.  They are the best support system a girl could ask for.  My mom is a solid rock, she has my back like none other.  I have the best cousins in the world who really are like extended siblings.  Even though most of us are islands apart, the bond we share is so special and I'm thankful for each and every one of them.

I am thankful for Inspire Church.  Pastor Mike and his team have shared the love of God in such a real way that really helped me to get back on the right track.  Christina and the rest of the girls that I've connected with took me into their little church family and though I haven't seen them in months - they are always there as a listening ear.  Pastor Mike brought in amazing speakers, especially the sermon from Pastor Archer.  It has resonated with me all year.

I am thankful for friends.   Ally, Janel, Chelsi, Geneva and Missy - true friends are hard to come by, a lesson I had to learn over and over again as a teenager and young adult.  But the five of you - I know will always be my friends for life.  Thank you for putting up with my crazy shenanigans, my podagee mouth and everything else that makes me - well you know, me!

I am thankful for Kaimana.  He is the best dog in the world.  He drives me crazy.  Is still a little wild and crazy playful.  But he knows his momma.  He can sense how I feel and he knows exactly how to make me smile and laugh.  I'm so proud that he adjusted well to being an outside dog from an inside one when I moved from Ewa Beach to Aiea.  It was sad, but he is a happy pup!! And I definitely sneak him in inside and put him in a kennel to sleep with me some nights when I'm not waking up before the sun rises!

I am thankful for my job.  So blessed to work for an amazing company with some of the best benefits.  Hello 8.5% 403b match!  And that's just one of the many benefits.  Last year I sat for a national test to be a CDM, CFPP and this year I got my "official" card and now I am the President Elect of the ANFP Hawaii Chapter, which is exciting to be making my way in the professional field I'm in.

I am thankful for him.   There is so much to say.  Thinking back over the past year since January, so much has happened.  Being loved through all the flaws you point out in yourself to all the true flaws you have in life that you're working on every day - that is something special that I will always be grateful for.  I feel so blessed to have such a sweet man in my life.

Currently Loving // 007

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

It's been a minute!  A super hot minute since I've done a "Currently Loving" post!  Thanks to Crystal turning her Currently Loving posts into a link-up, I'm forcibly back. Haha - but here is just a little collection of things I'm loving!!  And once you're done checking out what I'm loving, you should create your own list and link up with Crystal!

One thing I can't stand is buying products when you can't test them out *cough* drugstore products.  So I love love love finding blog posts like these from A Beautiful Mess that I can get some insights from and see if I think something would work for me!  At least it isn't a huge risk in losing money, but still!

This site is full of laughs, and is fun to catch up on during a quick work break.  There are notes for every type of situation.  I thought it was funny that I found some notes that related to my professional life.  It was nice to get a little chuckle amidst the madness at work on a Friday afternoon.

Scandal
A few weeks ago I was on a Scandal binge on Netflix and I don't know what the heck I was doing waiting so long to jump on the bandwagon. Hello, here I am!  The binge watching of three seasons was a little overwhelming.  Sadly, to the point where at times I forgot that Obama was actually our president.  Sad times I tell you!  Anyway - if you're oblivious to this series.  GET ON IT NOW!  AND CRYSTAL ----- this is considered favorite interwebs stuffs... because you can't access Netflix without the internet ;)!

Chips and Salsa
Lately I've been on a MAJOR chips and salsa trip.  Like my mouth salivates at work and I can't wait to get home to get crack-a-lackin on some chips!  We have this Mexican restaurant called El Mariachi and OH-EM-GEE .... their salsa!!! BOOOMMBBBB!! And now I want some.  Mmmm... That's a good idea since they are right down the road from me.  Salsa, chips and their guacamole.  Ok enough already!

Come on and link up with me and Crystal!

Happy Monday!

Monday, November 17, 2014

Half of November has up and left already.  Isn't that crazy!  So - hello Monday!  Good morning.  How was everyone's weekend?  I hope it was full of memories and relaxation.

This weekend was really nice, of course besides the fact that I was up before the sun on both Saturday and Sunday, but you know what they say... "the early bird get the worm.." or something like that.

I got to spend time with all my favorite people - including, dare I say it, my girlfriends!!  Life is busy, and we each have our own little lives - which gets in the way of hanging out the way we used to when we were all single (and working in town, hello happy hour and Indigo); so it was definitely a treat to be able to have some girl time on Saturday complete with Bloody Marys!  I've known these girls since we were in elementary school, so its nice to just be relaxed and ourselves and not so worked up about everything being so perfect for a get together.  The best part of our lil brunch rendevous was Missy forgetting to get chips when sister knew she was making her famous salsa.  Actually... she forget jalepenos too.  We picked a couple up for her, but then the chips slipped her mind.  So we had tortillas.  And just made do and fried those suckers!!

Bloody Mary's, salsa and "chips", steak, lifetime friends, good conversation and Scandal on Netflix could not have been a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon!  We swear we're gonna do it again soon, but knowing us - we'll see each other for Geneva's birthday in January!  So it'll be group texts for now, which are always entertaining!

Of course Sunday Funday was the same as every Sunday, which I enjoy.  And today - I'm off!  Hello three-day weekend, aren't you all jealous of me now! :)  So while you all read this, I'm probably still sleeping in, or maybe I'm taking the day head on!  At any rate, I hope your weekend went swell and you have an amazing week this week!!!

Help Me Choose a Holiday Card!

Friday, November 14, 2014

As each day passes I get more and more excited that Christmastime is near!  Like literally, I’m about to start the Christmas Pandora station in 3…2…1.

Anyway, as I prepare to get those lovely DIY Christmas gifts underway, I should also get my holiday cards squared off too!  And it seems like every year that passes, it gets harder to decide on a card design, let alone a card company to go through.  Each of them have amazing designs that can fit anyone’s style.  Choices, choices – right?  So not only do you have to pick a card company to stick to so you don’t spend days looking at cards; and not only do you have to pick out a design out of the thousands that are available; you also have to pick out a layout now!  Do we want a traditional card, or just a flat piece?  Picture or no picture?  Cut out or not?  Foil?  I mean the choices are literally endless.

Last week I got caught up on Minted and knew I had to use them to do my holiday cards this year! It’s just that I still can’t decide on what I want.  So I was hoping my lovely readers could help me narrow it down a bit.  I know I want a flat card opposed to a folded one.  I just can't decide, water color or foil?  Ornament card?  Bah Hum Bug!  HELP HELP HELP!!!

Christmas Photo Cards

Let's Be Jolly  |  Merry & Bright  |  Oh What Fun  |  Love & Joy

Christmas Photo Foil Cards

Christmas Love  |  Merry Christmas  |  Cheers  |  Happy Holidays

Christmas Photo Ornaments

Sending Cheer  |  Red Wreath  |  Be Merry  |  Joy

Here are some other options that I also liked!  You see my indecisiveness?!
Christmas Cheer  |  All Aglow  |  Be Merry  |  Aglow  |  Chalk & Holly  |  Bold Sparkle

Before you go, check out the entire Minted's Christmas Cards collection, and let me know what your favorites are!

FINALLY!!!

Saturday, November 8, 2014

After waiting over a month my new baby finally made its way home to me last night!!  Typical procrastinator in me didn't back up my phone so you know what was up today!  I still have to download a bunch of music which I'm okay with.  I just wanted to make sure that my text messages and photos transferred over.

And you can't have new phone without taking a few *cough* eight selfies.  You know... To make sure everything is working properly and functioning, right?

Now back to playing around with my new toy! Have a great rest of the weekend!! See yall on Monday :)

Pumpkin Soup

Wednesday, November 5, 2014

FACT:  I share recipes more frequently as a contributor for Hello Nature than I do on my own food blog, Whippin Kitchen.  Lame sauce, right?  Anyway - I guess that whole deal about having a deadline and getting paid for work makes you... well.. get ish done!

The sad thing is that I have a post all ready to go, and if I'd just get my lazy butt to upload some pictures and add some text, we'd be good to go.  Meanwhile, go check out the recipe on Hello Nature. Send some love.  And make this perfect fall soup before the holidays up and past you and you're springing forward an hour.

Oh Hello November!

Monday, November 3, 2014

Happy Monday!

Say what? Look who showed up to her blog on a bright and early Monday morning.  Wow lau lau!  Shocker right?
...my early Saturday morning view...
This time last year I was a bit of a basket case with my heart shredded to pieces and left on the floor.  It is amazing what difference a year can make.  The changes that happen.  The people that leave your life.  More important, the people that walk right into your life and straight to your heart.  Even though 2014 isn't over yet - this has been such an amazing year and I'm looking forward to ending it the way I started it.

So now to the point of this post which is - holy cannoli what in the heck happened to October?!  That just whizzed by - but I am definitely stoked because the holidays are here and being that I wasn't quite in the holiday spirit last year, you can count on me making up for lost time!!
...target shopping...
This weekend was nothing short of amazing.  The mailman did well this weekend leaving two packages at the front door!  Now if that darned iPhone would just show up!  My carrier finally emailed me and it looks like I'll be finding out my ship date today (because lo and behold it was postponed for the third time).  I paid a visit to Target, and hey, guess what?!  Target has Christmas shenanigans out already, but duh!  I controlled myself and just bought a mug - and maybe some holiday inspired coffee creamer to go with it.  Also, I got in some time in the kitchen without having to actually rush dinner which was nice.  Just a simple chicken dish with a delish gravy topped with french fried onions.  Maybe it'll make its way to Whippin Kitchen one day.  Which by the way - I am so overdue on recipe posting there, need to post up my Pork Guisantes recipe ASAP.  This weekend I played around with Photoshop.  I could get lost in tutorials all day learning new tricks!  And lastly, I spent some good old fashioned quality time with those closest to my heart..
...a good quote to start the week with...
So thats it!  HI NOVEMBER, glad you're here.

This week I'd like to...
1) Post a recipe on Whippin Kitchen'
2) Work on an actual blog header for Whippin' Kitchen
3) Make an effort to get a good night's rest.

What did you do this weekend?  What are your goals for the week?

Just a Thought...

Friday, October 31, 2014

I found this little piece on instagram the other day and I think it is so true, so I wanted to share it with all of you today.  I'm especially thankful for love today! Enjoy everyone.

They say love is blind.  I disagree.
Infatuation is blind, love is all-seeing and accepting.

Love is seeing all the flaws and blemishes and accepting them.
Love is accepting the bad habits and mannerisms, and working around them.
Love is recognizing all the fears and insecurities, and knowing your role is to comfort.
Love is working through all the challenges and painful times.

Infatuation is fragile and will shatter when life is not perfect.
Love is strong and it strengthens because it is real.

- Unknown

Stronger Than You Think

Thursday, October 23, 2014

Life will always throw you curveballs.  Sometimes you dodge them, sometimes they side swipe you and sometimes they straight knock you to the ground.

Regardless of how it hits you, one thing remains true and the same is that you get up again and you keep on going getting stronger and stronger.

Some curveballs you dodge and will always know how to dodge them.  Some curveballs you have to observe a couple of times to learn its path so you know how to dodge it.

Either way - with each trial, challenge and lesson in life we learn, we grow, we become better, we become wiser and we become stronger!

Lately...

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

Lately life has been quite amazing.  We had a small hurricane scare with Hurricane Ana.  Luckily we just had a ton of rain and that was that.  Cuddle weather?? Yes and thank you!  I live up on a big hill and the clouds were so low you couldn't see down to the end of the hill, or the harbor which was kind of neat.

Last month I ordered my iPhone 6 and am still waiting for it.  BOOO!!!  It's kind of bothersome, because  a certain someone is waiting for me to get it so she can have my old phone. So I'm itching to get my hands on it.  I already bought a case and the tempered glass covering for the screen from Amazon - just waiting for the dang phone!  Apparently it should be shipping by the 27th, but last week it was supposed to be by the 18th - so fingers crossed on that one.

Lately, we've also been bidding (and winning) jerseys online.  It's been fun and a little bit of a rush.  The worst part? Waiting for it to arrive on your front door!

On another note - love is definitely work!  It is hard work sometimes and sometimes its easy breezy.  I'm thankful for love though, because loving someone amidst everything life throws at you - it teaches you about yourself and helps you to grow.  When you're actively loving someone without condition it is telling what you and the other person is made of - and for that I'm thankful for.

6 TV Shows I Want To Come Back

Thursday, October 16, 2014

Everything you want to bring back from the 90s has been popping up on social media everywhere! Some do videos, some do lists (hello Buzzfeed)! I love taking those trips down memory lane and it got me thinking about the television shows that I miss.

Here are six shows I wish never retired:

1) Weeds

Because hello Hunter Parrish!  Although I'm not a fan of any type of recreational drug, I did thoroughly enjoy this series and the characters, not to mention I have the theme song down.. "Little boxes on the hillside..."

2) Dead Like Me

I found this show one night on Netflix and was so bummed to find out it was only two seasons long.  Lame sauce!  And I'm pretty sure it isn't on Netflix anymore either which is a huge bummer.  I loved this mix of characters.

3) Lie to Me

I love a good crime series and this one definitely had a unique twist on it!

4) Whose Line is it Anyway?

Who doesn't like improv comedy?!  I really liked Wayne Brady in this show, he seemed to be a bit more humble.

 5) Private Practice

Because I'm a Grey's die-hard, and wasn't quite ready to give up on Addison yet.  At first it took me a while to adjust to the characters, but I really ended up loving them!!  It was a great cast, and I'm so sad that this show ended.

6) Sex and the City

Because what girl doesn't wish the series never ended.  They are the best friends we never had.

Have you seen any of these shows? Which ones do you wish were still around?? Any shows that I missed?
