DIY Coasters

Saturday, April 12, 2014

I have been completely in love with gold lately.  I know I'm late to the party, but better I show up late than never, right?  As I work on re-doing my bedroom I definitely want to incorporate gold as an accent color.  We all need a little glimmer and shimmer in our lives, right?
Inspired by this pin, I decided to get creative and have some fun creating some of my own coasters to keep in my room for all the Coke Zero water I drink :) At Target I found a pack of four cork coasters and got some paint supplies at Walmart.  Then I painted a gold base with glitter over that for two coasters and a plain white base for the others.
Let your creativity take over or browse some patterns for inspiration.  Polka dots, chevron, geometric - it is all up to you!  Now that I'm writing this out - I think I need to go and get more coasters!  After everything dries - for good measure I sealed it with some mod podge, but you can try it without if you're in a rush.
The gold based coasters came out much nicer than the white ones, but I think they all look lovely.  I may try to go over the striped and "Brave" coasters again with the gold to try and get it to pop a little more.  By far, my favorite is the cross coasters.  I love the edges of the crosses, how they fade and don't quite have an organized structure.  All the coasters were done free hand - and I think that definitely adds to the beauty of them!

What kind of creativity have you been engaging in at the moment?!

xoxo, Aukele

  1. These look great! I love them. :)

I've been writing a lot lately, but I have been looking at a DIY. I don't know if I'll end up doing it, because it'll be a bigger project, but we'll see.
