Oh... TODDY!

Friday, May 30, 2014

I'm not one of those people who live off of caffeine.  I don't need an IV hook-up.  I can do bad all by myself.  NO!  But, I'm not one of those, "don't talk to me until I've had my cup of joe," type of people.  I just enjoy the taste.  I love the perfect balance and harmony of milk or cream with just enough sweetness.

Living in Hawaii - it's HOT!  I break a sweat putting on my make up sometimes, especially when the trade winds aren't cooperating with me!  So enter ICED COFFEE - but hello, hi??!  Who wants a watered down cup of joe?  Let alone bitter.  BLEH.  It might work for some to brew a hot pot of coffee and then ice it down and drink it.  Some might even have the time to put it in the fridge and wait for it to cool down on its own.  And, by the way, I love my KEURIG, however - those iced coffee k-cups --- it just doesn't work.  The quality isn't there, and your ice melts as soon as the drip is finished.  MAJOR LAME SAUCE.

ENTER THE TODDY!

I love the whole idea of it.  There are a ton of instructions and everyone has their own method.  Currently, I'm trying to find my perfect brew - but while I'm at it, I figured I'd share some of the methods I've read and am using as guidance to cold brewing my favorite cup of coffee!

The Pioneer Woman
A Beautiful Mess
Smitten Kitchen
Door Sixteen
New York Times
Imbibe

If you are an iced coffee drinker, there is literally no comparison between hot brewed or cold brewed iced coffee.  COLD BREW TAKES ALL FOR THE MAJOR GRAND SLAM, HOME RUN, TOUCHDOWN and whatever else you got there!  Serious business.  For one, it's less acidic which is beneficial for multiple reasons.  But also - the taste is incomparable.  It is smooth and rich without the bitterness of a hot brewed coffee.  You know when coffee has been sitting a while and the quality drops, not with cold brew.  Seriously so yum!  Currently I'm finishing my first cup mixed with almond milk and homemade dulce de leche... FOR THE WIN!!

Happy Friday yall!  Now go start your cold-brew process so you can enjoy some for your Saturday Morning :)

xoxo, Aukele

  1. I love cold-brew coffee! I make mine in a French press and let it sit out for at least 24 hours. I ground the beans right before I brew them and mix in some ground cocoa beans to give it a bit of a chocolatey flavor. And to drink I like to mix it with almond milk too, or coconut milk. :) Lately I've been using a mix of regular almond milk and chocolate almond milk in my hot coffee and I think that would be really tasty in cold brew too. I love the Pioneer Woman's pictures when she talks about iced coffee. If I look at them I know that I need to have an iced coffee on hand, because her photos look so delicious! So does yours!
