What's crackin mackin!!  Fridays.  Aren't they great?!  Actually mine will be a little busy today, but once 4pm hits I'll be a happy camper.  So how is life?  What is going on with you lovely readers of mine?  Life for me has been pretty good lately.  PS: Did you check out the So Worth Loving brand yet?? I love them!

Work has been steady and busy - just enough balance of new things to keep me on my toes and engaged, and routine things to help give my mind a break when I need it.  Yesterday I attended one of our quarterly dietary meetings with our group purchaser and it was quite productive.

One of my bestest best cousins, Rachel, was in town (from Hilo, Hawaii) this past Saturday through Wednesday with her newborn, Tamar. We had a great time catching up and snuggling baby.  She and I have quite a unique relationship and it was non-stop laughs from the moment I picked her up from the airport until I dropped her off.  PS: I hadn't even thought about working on my weekly wishes until she left Wednesday night - so Thursday.  That might be a total fail bomb come Monday.  We shall see??!

I really need to get it together on the health kick though.  Maybe I picked up a couple of pounds from hanging out with my cousin or something - but it was not a good feeling to see a jump in a week's time.  I need to figure out a plan that works with my on-the-go life, because that is how I've been living right now. Any ideas would be absolutely lovely!  And I literally need to make this Stead Salad with Crispy Shallots, Dried Cherries, Pecans and Goat Cheese before I eat my laptop looking at this scrumptious meal.

If you feel the inkling to get to know me more, I posted my ABCs this past Wednesday - taking a fun twist on learning about me a little bit more. 

This weekend I'm looking forward to tackling some organization in my room, getting a grip on my health and fitness goals and spending some quality time with my favorite guy, Kaimana.

ON BEING SINGLE - So Worth Loving

It has been three months since I've been single and let me say that it flew by quickly.  I remember those initial dark days so vividly and how I could not even fathom there being a light at the end of the tunnel.  I didn't know how I could go on without my ex.  Since then, so much has changed and happened.  I feel like I've found myself again (because I definitely lost her in that relationship), and learned some BIG lessons along the way.

A few weeks ago I came across So Worth Loving brand, and their message hit right at home for me.  It inspired me to express some of what I experienced with my past relationship and so I just wanted to take a moment to share some thoughts on being single and being "so worth loving".

Toward the end of my relationship I felt completely worthless.  I had not one single drop of self confidence left in me.  Prior to the constant verbal abuse, I was one of those girls who loved taking "selfies" and the last one I had taken was months and months ago - heck I didn't even have a recent picture of me on my blog.  I was called every single name in the book by my ex, no lie.  And the name calling was a daily habit.  When your partner gets mad at you for apologizing to their child for not picking up juice because you sincerely forget - HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM.

Enter the So Worth Loving brand.  Their message is so simple, yet so real and relevant.  People need to be reminded all the time that THEY TOO.. are so worth loving.  More importantly, not everyone is worthy of your love.  Some people don't deserve your love, time, attention, money, efforts, etc. and we need to be strong enough to defend our worth.
There are three things that I have vowed to NEVER LET HAPPEN AGAIN:

1. I will never let a man complete me. I am complete in Jesus, and will have a man complement me, rather than complete me (Colossians 2:10).

2. I will never find (or define) my identity in a man.  Nothing in this world is promised to last forever.  Why should who I am be found in another human being? When that man walks out of my life, he will not be taking who I am with him.  When that man walks out of my life, I will not be left soul-less and have to re-define who I am as a person again.  My identity is in Christ, and I am wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

3. I will never let my joy be fulfilled by a man.  To give a man so much power as to say that he is your sole source of joy and happiness is a foolish thing.  It is only the joy found in Jesus that fills my soul (Romans 15:13).

What are some things you have learned from your past relationships that you will (or did) not carry into your next relationship.

PS: I know some of you reading may not be a Christian, or believe in the Bible - but this is my truth; and if it isn't your cup of tea, I hope you can understand where I am coming from and still relate somewhat to my reasoning and what is truth for me.

Hey my dashing superstars!  It's been a while since I've shared a collection of items that I love and so I was inspired to share some of those things with you by the lovely Crystal at The Happy Type.  The last two weeks she shared some great nuggets from the inter-webs and so I just had to join along!

I came across the So Worth Loving movement on IG through @_mboles and have not been able to get enough of So Worth Loving since.  I purchased this AMAZEBALLS shirt above and truly wish I could just rock out all of their shirts.  Finding this movement at this point in my life could not have been more perfect; and with each of their IG posts, it just helps me to solidify my own self-worth coming out of my previous relationship.  Really, I couldn't be more thankful to have found this company and the life-giving, loving people behind it.  Just down right inspired by them.

Like seriously folks, I die right here.  Nothing does me good like an amazing steak salad.  And holy canoli guacamole - does this not look amazing, right?  I'm probably too lazy to go looking for dried cherries, and will probably sub those for cranberries, as well as cheat with some french's fried onions - but this will be happening in my kitchen ASAP!


Um - I. CAN'T. GET. ENOUGH. OF. THIS. VIDEO.  Ok enough of that nonsense, but seriously... I love Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake together.  They just crack me up, non stop.  I wish I could just post all of their videos in one blog post I think they are so funny - but that probably isn't a good idea.  Just a heads up - future Currently Loving posts will probably have another JF&JT video in it #justsaying.  You have to take 20 minutes out of your day to watch this because they killed it - and had a blast doing it too!!

Weekly Wishes // 002

Good Morning! Today I'm back with my second installment of Weekly Wishes link up (2014) hosted by Melyssa from The Nectar Collective.  I love this link up because it helps you to focus on small goals that you can accomplish within a week to ensure you stay productive and don't procrastinate the small steps that take you to bigger leaps.  These goals can be as small as keeping the clothes off the floor and as big as launching a business.  It is really meant to meet you wherever you are in life and I hope you take some time to think about what you want to accomplish this week and let us all know so we can encourage each other.

LAST WEEK'S WISHES WERE:
1. Make progress on an organized room.  I was definitely able to go through some things and throw away items that weren't necessary or put away items I wanted to keep.  There is still a ton of work to be done in this department though.
2. Eat a healthy lunch four times this week.  Maybe I hit this one 3 times.  Definitely need to make an effort to pack healthy lunches or have healthy options available, when there are none served at work.
3. Dominate the cardio circuit.  Bombed this one.

THIS WEEK'S WISHES ARE:
1. Clear out storage space in closets to store wanted/needed items that cause clutter.  It has definitely been a challenge moving from a one bedroom apartment to one room.  Everything is everywhere.  I need to find some space in some of the outside closets to have a home for items I'd like to keep (cookbooks, some school texts and other items) that I don't necessarily need available every day.  This is a step towards a more organized room and reaching my organization goals for 2014.
2. Dominate the cardio circuit.  Last week I just didn't make time for this one.  I got too lazy, other things seemed more important.  This week I'm making it a priority.  Done and done.

Super Bowl is right around the corner and with that in mind, I thought it would be fun to do a round up of recipes that I would love to whip up on game day.  Then - it dawned on me that I'm actually trying to be more healthy this year - and though I may dig into some cheesy goodness come game day; I would really rather encourage more healthy eating.

Lately I've been following a TON of "clean eats" accounts on IG and thought I'd share some of the love with you today.  I love that these people make HEALTHY food look so darn good.  Who wouldn't want to eat their food?!

2014 Organizational Goals

Out of all of the goals I am setting out to accomplish this year - organization will most likely be the death of me.  The last two Thursdays I talked about my health goals and financial goals which I'm super pumped and excited to tackle.  However, organization - not so much my favorite.

I've always been the girl with the messy room.  I loathe folding clothes, hanging them up, putting them away.  As I write this post, I have a pile of clothes on my bed that's been wrinkling up since they were washed on Sunday.  It doesn't quite help that I went from an apartment to a bedroom either - but still I need to get this ISH under control - once and for all!

My desire is to have one of those pinterest worthy bedrooms that is just a sanctuary of serenity and peace. The first step to even thinking that could possibly be a reality will be to organize my life and room.  To purge things in this 'ol bedroom of mine that have been here for years without any use.

One of my big problems is that much of the storage outside of my room is already filled with items collected over the years from various family members.  Mind you, my grandpa built this house over 40 years ago - we still have trophies from football and baseball when my uncles were kids.

With all of that said, here are my 2014 Organizational Goals:

1. Purge - self explanatory, and a definite first step.  I've already gotten rid of one small dresser in my room but still have a lot to go.
2. Organize my closet - It is literally filled to the brim, and it needs to be organized and given a good deep clean.
3. Create a functional place for blogging and business - I  have a desk but it is too bulky now that I have a king size bed in here and so I am getting rid of it; but still need some type of place to blog and take care of business.
4. Organize my bathroom - Lucky me, my bathroom also serves as a guest bathroom - so it always needs to be tidy, but as of right now there isn't much space for me to have my bathroom necessities in there and therefore is clogging up precious space in my room.

I know that fully accomplishing these will be no easy task - and I will have a hard time finding JOY while doing it - but I know know know that if I could just really work on this part of my life, I'd be much happier and will find the JOY in enjoying my new sanctuary.

RECIPE: Basic Green Monster Smoothie

"HEY GOOD LOOKIN'!  WHAT YA GOT COOKIN'...?"  Can anyone finish up the line from good 'ol Hank?!  Yes, no?? Leave it in the comments.  
So what's crackin' y'all??  Well today, we're gonna get our blend on!  Yep, that's right.  Last week I was all about my morning blend.  I've been getting a ton of love on my breakfast smoothies from my IG feed and decided it was about time that I OFFICIALLY shared my recipe here on 'le blog.
Today I wanted to share my basic green monster smoothie.  I am in LOVE with this smoothie because it is super quick and simple and I don't have to think about it.  I love using frozen fruits because I do not need to add in ice which ends up watering it down.  The bananas in the frozen fruit mix that I use help to make the smoothie "creamier" without the added dairy.  If I'm feeling a little jazzy, I'll add in extra fresh fruits or veggies I have in the fridge (such as kiwi, lime, ginger, chia seeds, flax seeds, etc.), however this is my base and go-to.
PS: I am a firm believer in using recipes as a guide and then putting your personal flair and taste preferences into your food, so please use this as a guide and a base and add in your own crazy goodness!! 
GREEN MONSTER SMOOTHIE:
2 handfuls of frozen fruit (I use Target's tropical frozen fruit blend: peach, mango, pineapple and banana)
Spinach and or Kale
Agave or Honey
Water

Add in your fruit to your blender.  Load up the rest of the blender with spinach/kale goodness.  Add in enough water so that the fruit doesn't get stuck while mixing (you'll figure out how much once you make enough of these - you can always adjust!).  Squeeze in a little (or a lot until you are used to the "green" taste) of honey or agave. BLEND BLEND BLEND.

On to this week's wishes, shall we?

1. 2. Eat a healthy lunch four times this week.  Breakfast is easy peasy already, but planning lunch is a different story, especially when I have a free hot meal at work.  I know a full week's worth of healthy lunches isn't realistic for me - so the goal is four, more than half the week!

3. Dominate the cardio circuit.  Last week I posted a cardio circuit from pinterest, and my goal this week is to dominate it and complete the three rounds without a problem!!

I would make some financial wishes, but I already paid all the bills needed to be paid for this pay period, so we're good on that one!

Holy Cannoli Guacamole!!! My first week in forever that I've posted every single week day!!! That's kinda neat!! Too many exclamation points?  Ok, I 'll turn down the JOY a notch.  
Anyway.  Happy Friday!  I'm so excited that a three day weekend is upon us, if only I can make it through the day as work will be a little cray cray. (If you're feeling blue, check out these videos! They'll get you through the work day for sure).

How has your week been? Mine was pretty good. I've started to get back into the swing of things with blogging and that has been quite fun.  I purchased three sponsorships on blogs I've never sponsored before, so that should be interesting and hopefully it will bring some new readers.  I'm happy to have gotten some financial goals set in place for the year and have been already working towards knocking that debt off.

Wednesday was Kaimana's birthday! He turned 2 years old, my lil guy. Such a cuters lil pupper boy. Yes, I do talk baby talk to him. Tomorrow we're going to the doggy bakery to get him a little cupcake.  Cute puppiness will ensue on my instagram feed, for sure!

Yesterday I did my first day of walking my dog on the crazy long walk I usually don't like to do, plus a killer cardio workout that is pretty popular on Pinterest.  I only completed one set, though I could have done more.  My goal is to be able to do all three sets with energy still left in me by the end of next week.
This weekend I'm looking forward to finishing up catching up on Downton Abbey season 3, fixing my dog's kennel and of course church on Sunday.  Oh and what am I gonna do with Monday??? I don't know but I'll be soaking up every minute of my three day weekend for sure!!!

2014 Financial Goals

What a crazy whirlwind my finances were in these last two years.  2014 will definitely be my year to whip that department into shape!! FOR REAL.

Last week Thursday I shared about my 23 POUND WEIGHT LOSS in conjunction with some of my health goals for the year, and so this week I wanted to talk about finances.

When I was in my previous relationship, finances were a definite hardship.  If I start to go into detail this may turn into a badgering fest - so I'll do as my mom said and keep my mouth shut since I don't have anything nice to say on the topic. HOWEVER... one of the biggest blessings in being single is being able to get this important part of my life back on track.

Though I'd just love to go on a shopping spree every two weeks, because I barely saw a mall the past two years; I find JOY in knowing that I am taking care of my financial business and being a good steward over my money.

2014 Financial Goals:
  1. Review interest rates for loans and credit cards.
  2. Pay off one of three student loans.
  3. Pay above the minimum on my credit card every month.  Y'all I'm down from four credit cards to one!  That's a celebration in itself.  If I do end up using my credit card for someone, I will have to pay off the credit I used in addition to paying above the minimum amount owed.
  4. Create a steady side income.  For a little over a year I've slowly been building up a side income, but it hasn't been stable in the least.  I have multiple streams of revenue, which is nice - but I'd really like to build each one up so that they generate consistent income.  How I'm gonna do that? No idea at the moment, but strategy sessions will definitely be happening at a Starbucks soon!

Focusing on JOY

The last two months of 2013 were especially trying for my spirit and soul.  I took a break from blogging to deal with a heart crushing break up and to really find myself again.   
             To find my happy. Or so I thought.  
Then December 15th came, and on that day my life was forever changed.  Roger Archer spoke at my church about JOY and I walked out of that church with a completely new outlook on life.  Would you mind if I shared some of that insight with you?

THE HUMAN RACE IS ALWAYS TRYING TO FIND THEIR HAPPY PLACE... CHECK IT OUT!

^^I rather duplicate someone else's life than focus on my own.

Roger Archer said,
"The working definition of happiness is a FEELING of goodness, based solely on EXTERNAL circumstances." 
So if I have this car, this husband, this job - I have found my happy place.  But happiness is kind of like a honeymoon phase if you will.  You get happy about your new car, then the belts wear and you have to spend extra money to maintain it - and now you're irritated with it.  You get happy about having a new best friend!! Then she has her time of the month and she is a complete drama queen and now you can't stand being around her for a few days.
"Happiness can taint and wear off... You can only be happy over an external circumstance, but those happy moments can quickly erode and fade." - Roger Archer
For the past 27 years of my life I've always associated happiness with joy. Aren't they the same?  While others may say yes, I have to say no.  S. Michael Houdmann sheds some light on this topic as well.  He shares that,
"...happiness tends to be fleeting and depends on temporal factors like circumstances and people. "
BUT JOY!
"Joy is a REALITY of goodness, based solely on INTERNAL POSSESSION." - Roger Archer
Joy is something within you, that stays with you through whatever circumstances come your way.  Once you seize that joy, then you have to develop it.  Joy isn't developed when you're happy, but when you're down and out.  When you go through a break up like I did.

I would wake up every morning because I couldn't sleep.  I was distraught about... how could he leave me?  How can he already move on to another person?  Why her?  He said they were just friends, why is she sleeping over his house already?  I could have gone deeper into that hole.  I could have let it make me bitter instead of better, as Roger Archer puts it.

But I didn't. I pursued my saving grace, Jesus.  My Comforter in times of need.  I would wake up and put on worship music and cry out to Him.  Over time I was able to flex my JOY muscles and work them out (develop), and soon enough I was praising and smiling, opposed to worshiping and crying.

When you have JOY inside of you.  When it is your strength.  You can endure hard times.  Joy brings you endurance to live the life that has been designed specifically for you. 
 'How could we ever consider going through difficulties and trials a reason to feel joy? James 1:3-4 gives us a clue when it says, “Knowing that the testing of our faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”' - S. Michael Houdmann
When your living by happiness you will drift when life brings you hardships and fall off your pre-destined life path.  Why?
"HAP'PINESS, n. [from happy.] The agreeable sensations which spring from the enjoyment of good; that state of a being in which his desires are gratified, by the enjoyment of pleasure without pain... Perfect happiness, or pleasure unalloyed with pain, is not attainable in this life." - Noah Webster's American Dictionary
 So my focus this year is to choose to live a JOYFUL life in everything that I do.  I choose to put my trust in the Lord and know that as I submit my life to Him, He is in control and the JOY of the Lord will be my strength through the good and bad times to come.

A Dose of Laughter

Those of you who have been around for quite some time know that I had gone through some trying times the last couple of months.  Though I'm not quite ready to share that story yet, I did want to share something that helped me get through that time - laughter.  It's an infectious medicine can really fill your heart with happiness.
Not only can it fill your soul when it is on empty, check out these health tidbits on laughter:

In my post about losing 23 pounds I talked about how I had no desire to eat, and I pretty much ate just because I knew I had too and knew the consequences I'd pay later if I didn't eat at all.  So being that low, it can definitely be hard to find something in your own life to smile or laugh about.  
There are tons of ways to find laughter.  Much of it revolves around putting yourself in positive social situations in which you are around those that truly love you and care for you - family and true blue friends.  However, there will come a time that you will have to be by yourself.  And you have to come to terms with it, accept it and embrace it.
This is for the times that you find yourself alone and rather get through it laughing than being depressed about the cards dealt that are in your hands...

HAWAII EATS: Arm Bar

Happy Aloha Friday!!!! Sup-sup-super dupes excited that the weekend is – oh an 8 hour work day away!  Well it has definitely been forever since I’ve posted about a restaurant here in Hawaii – but alas, the time has finally come.  To be quite honest though, I am a horrible blogger because I didn’t even snap these pics thinking of my blog.  I was really thinking of blasting it on my Instagram – which already happened via that super awesome app called flipagram.  Have you heard of it?  Well that is a bit off topic, but anyway…

Arm Bar Sports Bar and Grill is actually right down the road from my house.  I could seriously burn off my meal walking up the hills going back home. At any rate, this bar and grill is relatively new – and I remember when they were setting up and moving in but didn’t really think much about it after that. Oh until, @yelphawaii on Instagram decided to blast a bunch of pics of their food onto my IG feed last Friday.

This past Sunday, one of my girlfriends called me at 8pm wanting to do dinner, so as any single girl would do – I smacked some lipstick on, put on some mascara and met up with my girl for a little late night din din and chat.

Check out that ish right there!  Seriously, we could not get over how good their food is!  Major food orgasm in my mouth.  Did I just go there?  Oh, yeah I did. (SIDENOTE: Didn't I pick the perfect song for that video!?  I love it.)

Then I went back on Wednesday with my mom.  Hands down one of my fave go-to restaurants.  I mean what more can you ask for - I could walk there if I needed to; the food is reasonably priced; they serve good appetizers - ie: portion control; the atmosphere is perfect; the staff is nice and friendly; and there are probably much more pros that I can't think of right now, but I'll get back to you on that.

I Lost 23 Pounds!

Since I became single at the end of October, I have dropped 23 pounds.  Amaze balls right?!  I’m definitely one of those people who are sick to their stomach when going through heartbreaking issues – the last thing on my mind was food.  Not to say that I starved, but the amount consumed was drastically less. 
Yes... I'm now a selfie girl.  Do somethin' about it ;)!

In December I pretty much plateaued and fluctuated 1-3 pounds.  I see it as a plus since my appetite is relatively normal and I haven’t gained any weight back.  Kudos to me, right? 

I’ve also gotten a lot more physical activity in with hikes, going to the gym and walking Kaimana.  I live on this giant hill, so I’m pretty much forced to break a sweat on my daily walks with him.
One of my major goals for 2014 is to drop this weight for good and my end goal is to drop 100 pounds.  If I can do it in a year, great!  If I don’t meet that goal, I’ll still be far off to healthy than I was in October 2013 and plugging away at that 100 until I get there.

I gave myself a break for the holidays, but now they are over and it’s time to get down to business. 

SO WHATS THE PLAN?

First off to change my breakfast.  Geez, this sounds a little reminiscent to some previous weekly wishes back in the archives.  This time around though with the added boost from the “my heart just got ripped out of me” 23 pound loss, I’m fired up and ready to tackle this thing!  I’m wanting to get back to making green smoothies again as well as hard boiled eggs and overnight oats. NO silly, not all in one sitting – but those are some go-to breakfast options as well as an occasional open faced peanut butter banana sammy!
The beast I get to walk every day with Kaimana.

My goal for January is to his the gym at least three times a week (doing cardio and strength training) IN ADDITION TO my daily walks with the cutie patootie doxbull of mine, Kaimana.

I won’t commit to how often I’ll be posting on my progress – but know you’ll be hearing about the ups and downs more frequently than not.
