Today is National Honesty Day.  So in honor of that, let's be honest shall we! :-)

+If I were being completely honest with you I’d tell you that…

+I think laser hair removal is God’s gift to women like me (I just completed my fifth treatment for my upper lip, and am so happy with the results).

+I hate touching food that has been sitting in a sink (especially when it’s been swimming in water, yuck).

+I sometimes wonder why R finds my flawed body attractive.

+I used to be a closet eater and a common secret dinner would be a big mac meal followed by a cinnabon for dessert.  Gross.

+I just realized that I totally didn’t take a picture of my sinful soft batch peanut butter chocolate chunk bacon cookies that I made for dessert wars at work – and so now if I want to put up the recipe I need to make another batch.

+I eat more when I am at work then when I’m at home.

+I thinking sugaring treatments are better than waxing.

+I have an addiction to Coke Zero.

+When I get hot fudge sundaes from McDonalds I always get extra fudge.

+I hate having a dirty car, but don’t hate it enough to clean it.

+I am a brand snob when it comes to makeup, with the exception of mascara.  My top brands include MAC, Urban Decay and Bare Escentuals.

+I bite my nails, and pick at my toenails.

+I think the ambigram tattoo on my wrist is just a little too big for my liking.

+My expectations for my Thirty-One Gifts business were super low, but after the successes I encountered with this first party – this could really be a viable side income and help me meet some of my 2014 Financial Goals.

+I’m dreading doing a re-brand and name change for this blog, but if I want to go in the direction my heart is leading – I need to buck up and get to work.

What a Weekend

Seriously? Monday morning already???  Boo to that one, times a million.  Anyway, hello Monday.  Please treat me well because after the weekend I had, I need all the help I can get.  So about that weekend!  
 
Friday night was quite chill.  Me and the man relaxed and ate one of our favorite pau hana friday dinners: corned beef and onions, poke, taegu, poi and rice. Watched a bit of tv till we both knocked out and I had the energy to get up and go home.  Real eventful, right?!  Youngins - this is what you get to look forward to once you hit your late twenties!  Haha. 
 
 
Saturday was very productive, I must say!  I am almost done clearing out my closet - only a couple more boxes to go. I have two trash bags full of clothes ready to be given to charity that will be picking it up on Wednesday.  I also got rid of 3 boxes of trash. Woot woot on that one!  Also - I got stuck watching Cassey Ho videos.  Now - I 've known about her site for a while, as my lovely friend Crystal is a big advocate of hers,  but I never really checked her out until Saturday.  She is so inspirational and I am finally ready to put in some work on that physical aspect of life that I've been MAJORLY slacking on.  Speaking of - I was about to pick up a set of dumbbells when R told me he had a pair of 15 pounders that he doesn't use, so I'll be using them!  Double woot to that.  I had a late lunch with my mom and the nephews at Genki - one of our favorites; then later, R brought home a Ribeye steak from work so we shared that with some of the left over poke from Friday night.
 
 

Yesterday was a WHIRLWIND!!  I had my first (albeit, very successful) thirty one gifts party and it was SO.MUCH.FUN!  I was super nervous, but I had a blast, was able to make the hostess' guests laugh and sold lots and lots of bags!  The big seller was obviously the April special - I sold 6 All Pro Totes at $25 (regular $80) (they all spent $35 to get the deal).  My favorite part about that bag is that there is pocket that goes into the bag for your shoes, completely lined so that the shoes are "in the bag" but in a separate compartment that doesn't get your other items dirty!  LOVE IT!!
 

After a much needed nap, R and I did a double feature and saw Brick Mansion and The Other Women.  So pretty much all of the movies we've seen up until tonight have mostly been action or scary type movies (ie: no chick flicks).  Earlier in the day I asked him, "So would you ever take one for the team and watch a funny "chick flick" with your girl?" to which he replied, "Of course I will." Can you say keeper!  Haha.  Honestly I wasn't expecting him to go for it - let alone, in the end like The Other Women better than Brick Mansion; but I was surprised! He is a very macho type of guy, but he always surprises me - so kudos on that.

And so now it is 2:18 in the AM - and I really need to get some sort of sleep in order to function later on this morning.  So toodles canoodles!  It's been real :)

A Thought on Friendship

Sometimes in life we just have to be the better person.  We have to be the stronger person.  We have to be the one to make the first move.  We have to be the one to break the ice. We have to be the one to say I'm sorry first.  We have to be the one to cause some "friction" to ultimately "smooth" things over.  Sometimes in life, we just have to roll up our sleeves and get dirty.
 
We need to have HOPE, when it seems like there may be none left.
We need to have FAITH, and believe in our loved ones when no one else will.
We need to LOVE our loved ones through it all, just as Jesus does.
We need to have DETERMINATION, to see our loves one through to victory.

No one walks into your life by happen chance.  There is a reason for everything.  Though some people may not be destined to be in your life forever, there is a reason that they are there.  And while they are there (whether it be short-term or long-term), I one hundred percent believe that it is our duty to be relentless in our hope, faith, love and determination for them. 

You will never know the impact that you could have on a person's life.  So wouldn't you want to make the best impact every single day.  When all is said and done to know that you have given it your all.
 
Relationships are not easy.  They are hard, hard work.  Whether it is maintaining a relationship with a parent, keeping in contact with your best friend from high school ten years down the line or making sure that fire is lit with your spouse.  Sometimes life hits your loved ones with a curveball, and though what they are going through may not directly involve you, you still feel the repercussions of it.  But through it all, lets choose to have hope, to not lose faith, to give love and show determination.  Lets fight for those relationships that matter.  After all, Jesus fought for and gave his life for us.

DIY: Gold and White Cross Planter

Did I mention lately that I've been loving me some gold?  Because if I haven't already, and if you're new to these parts of the interwebs - then ummmm.. yah! I have a little bit of an obsession (here and here).  Oh and I'm loving the crosses too.. by the way, FYI, if you didn't know now you know.  SIDENOTE: I would have hashtags all of those lil sayings after, "crosses too" but I thought it'd be a little bit too much.  Because if you didn't know - I do love me some Jimmy Fallon hashtag clips!  Especially the skits with Justin Timberlake and Jonah Hill.
As a disclaimer - I'm not a crafter, whatsoever.  I don't know what brushes to use for what.  Why brushes have different bristles (is that what it is called)?  Or whatever!  It took me quite a few quotes to paint these bad boys and not have the terracotta show through.  I'm not sure if it was the paint or the brushes I used to paint them - but I finally got it looking pretty decently.  

My crosses aren't all the same length in the rows - but it is unique and one of a kind.  A special kind of pretty - if you will! And don't you love that lil succulent?!  I've been wanting to do a little mini garden of succulents for awhile - but I'm horrible at making decisions, so this lil guy will do for now.  Let's call him Spike!

Spike is a Hawaorthia Attenuata succulent.  Also known as a zebra plant.  He hails from the Eastern Cape of South Africa.  Spike requires partial shade to full sun.  The brighter the light, the deeper shade of green he shows.  However, in full sun, Spike will turn into a beautiful reddish-purple color.  Spike doesn't really like to drink water all that much and only when he is on the verge of dehydration.  He is totally independent and doesn't like alot of attention.  Lastly - Spike will bloom anywhere from late to mid winter and an antenna will emerge from the center with smal white blooms.  You should snip it off when the bloom fades.  If you check out the head shot, you can see Spike already has his antenna, we're just waiting for him to bloom.

It's Tuesday yall! And I'm still kicking!!  First off, I have a HORRIBLE tooth ache.  I don't think I've ever had a tooth ache in my life.  Not one that keeps me up till 1:30am anyway.  Sad times.  My dentist couldn't see me on Monday and I'm not available when she is this week - so hmmmm?? We'll figure it out.  In the meantime, my sweet "R" gave me some Anbesol to try to help relieve some of the pain, and its working. Ok, ok guys, you can stop playing the violin, I'm done whining!

Moving on -

I totally forget how I found this shirt, but I kinda love it.  I don't think I'd have the balls to wear it, just because it's kind of rude.  I guess I just like the whole play on music since I play piano.  I shared it with some of my friends that I used to do music with back in the day and they all got a kick out of it.  You can purchase it here, and if you don't know (or couldn't figure it out), it says, "shut your face".

Monday Morning Coffee // 002

 Here we go again.  Another weekend gone to soon.

So if I were to wake up earlier than normal, and we were able to meet for coffee, I'd share with you that I got a ton done on my room!  I was able to get rid of my old desk and chair, re-homed by my friend for her son to use for homework!  And I also filled up a trash bag full of clothes to give to Goodwill.  I was also able to clean out and re-organize two drawers in my dresser, do a fun DIY Cork Coaster project and work on some other things that will be coming out sometime in the near future.  I'll give you a peak!!!
Yeah, I'm in love with it!  I am not too sure what I want to do with it, but I'm thinking maybe a 16x20 in my room, or something??  We'll see.

I also played around in the kitchen.  I wanted to make a pesto, but it kind of turned into a dressing!  Still tasted yummy.  Also made some DELISH oatmeal raisin cookies that I'll be posting soon (on hopefully) my new blog - dedicated only to food!!


This week will be absolutely SWAMPED! Mondays pretty much consume my life in meetings galore and fixing all the things that went wrong or needed to be changed over the weekend.  On Tuesday my new clerk is starting and I have a quality assurance quarterly meeting that takes up the majority of the afternoon.  On Wednesday I'll be training my new clerk all day as I'll be away from the office the next 5 days.  On Thursday I have an ANFP (Association of Nutrition & Foodservice Professionals) workshop all day long and Friday is a holiday.  I decided to make it a four day weekend for me and took Monday off as well.  So while I'll be enjoying next weekend, I'll be paying for it Monday-Wednesday FOR SURE!

Captain Obvious would tell you I'm just trying to stay afloat at work this week.  So aside from that - my goals are to finalize a new name for this ol blog here 91 Dash (what's going on? click here), finalize a name for my food blog, work on more creative expressions and keep on getting my bedroom organized and clutter free.

DIY Coasters

I have been completely in love with gold lately.  I know I'm late to the party, but better I show up late than never, right?  As I work on re-doing my bedroom I definitely want to incorporate gold as an accent color.  We all need a little glimmer and shimmer in our lives, right?
Inspired by this pin, I decided to get creative and have some fun creating some of my own coasters to keep in my room for all the Coke Zero water I drink :) At Target I found a pack of four cork coasters and got some paint supplies at Walmart.  Then I painted a gold base with glitter over that for two coasters and a plain white base for the others.
Let your creativity take over or browse some patterns for inspiration.  Polka dots, chevron, geometric - it is all up to you!  Now that I'm writing this out - I think I need to go and get more coasters!  After everything dries - for good measure I sealed it with some mod podge, but you can try it without if you're in a rush.
The gold based coasters came out much nicer than the white ones, but I think they all look lovely.  I may try to go over the striped and "Brave" coasters again with the gold to try and get it to pop a little more.  By far, my favorite is the cross coasters.  I love the edges of the crosses, how they fade and don't quite have an organized structure.  All the coasters were done free hand - and I think that definitely adds to the beauty of them!

Looking through my pins on pinterest I realized that there were a ton of pins that I've been meaning to do (and am fully capable of doing) but just haven't done it.  I'm so glad Melyssa made this prompt for the #CreativeCollective and it has definitely inspired me to start doing more of the things I find on pinterest.  I'm thinking that this will become a regular thing for me and will turn into a series, at least this is what I hope - especially with all of the DIY that I want to be doing to my room, anyhow!  Consider this post the first in a series of "Pinterest Diaries".

RECIPE: Sprinkle Chocolate Chip Cookies

Over a month ago I saw a post on cookies with sprinkles on it, and it looked so yum!  I could have sworn Chips Ahoy! used to make chocolate chip cookies with sprinkles on them but I couldn't find it at Target. Lame!  By the way, what's up with the root beer float cookies??? I don't know about that one!  Anyhow, I had a hankering for chocolate chip cookies last weekend and so I whipped up a batch.  Nothing beats fresh, homemade cookies.



 Sprinkle Chocolate Chip Cookies         

Ingredients:
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon  kosher salt + extra for topping
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
1.5 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs
1/2 12oz package of milk chocolate chips
1/2 12 oz package of semi sweet chocolate chips
Sprinkles
          
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.  
Combine flour, baking soda and 1 tsp salt in small bowl. Thoroughly combine butter, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large bowl until creamy (you can use a mixer or do it by hand with a whisk or even a fork).  Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Fold chocolate chips into batter. Drop by rounded tablespoon (or ice scream scoop) onto an ungreased baking sheet lined with parchment paper, no more than 9 cookies per sheet.  Sprinkle on the sprinkles and top with a 1/4 of a pinch of kosher salt. 

Bake for 9-11 minutes.  Let cool for 2-5 minutes then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

The Brave Dame: Controlling Your Tongue

As women we LOVE to talk.  Some of us can talk to anyone.  Pick a person off the street and we could dish out our entire life story.  Others?  We are more comfortable with friends and acquaintances, while some women are only prone to share life with a few close people.  Regardless, we all LOVE to talk and communicate.

Sometimes that mouth of ours that we've been blessed with can get us into trouble.  Sometimes we congratulate another woman on their pregnancy and bite our tongues really hard when we find out the person is not pregnant.  Maybe we've occasionally let a curse word slip out when we're in a professional setting.  And once in a while we say things out of vengeance and hurt the ones that we love the most.

As women who are trying every day to love ourselves more and more, it is important to know the power of our words and harness that power for good.  Looking at yourself from the outside, would you love you?  The way that we speak truly reflects our character and our heart’s attitude.

Earlier in March, my pastor spoke on unity and gave us these five bullet points on unity.  I feel that these questions translate well into controlling our tongue.  When we talk with others keep this in mind:
  • Am I being humble or prideful?
  • Am I being gentle or domineering?
  • Am I being patient or edgy?
  • Am I showing grace or being judgemental?
  • Am I being a peacemaker or troublemaker?
A thought provoking point that my pastor pointed out was that sometimes you have to initiate conflict to bring peace.  Sometimes we have to bring up situations and talk them out in order to have peace on both ends.  However, when we do need to initiate conflict in order to resolve a situation, it’s important that we do it in a gentle way and gracefully.  Using questions like, “Hey, do you have a minute to talk?” or “May I have a moment of your time? I would like to share something that’s been on my heart.”  Questions like that help to “soften the blow” so to speak, and hopefully create an open atmosphere where offense isn’t taken.

It is so easy to lash out on someone, or to be (and stay) mad, but really, what does that do for you and your soul?  Not much!  Doesn’t get you anywhere higher in life.  So, remember!  Be humble, gentle, patient and graceful always!  Take the higher road and be the better person, your spirit and soul with thank you for it!

Top 10 Pranks from The Office

Oh Hello April!! Didn't expect to see you so soon!  We're keeping it short and sweet on this April Fool's and I'm sharing some fun office pranks from none other than The Office.

One of my favorite pranks is to color a piece of scotch tape with a black sharpie and to tape it over the mouse sensor.  It's a good 2 minute laugh while you're victim tries to figure out why his or her mouse isn't working!  I'm known for the prank at my former facility in the food service department, but not at the one I'm at now.  Hmmm??? Wonder who will be my culprits today!!
