Tuesday Thoughts

Tuesday, March 31, 2015

+Having headaches while you’re pregnant are NOT FUN.  I’m not a big medicine taker, but the fact that I really shouldn’t if I can hold off – is just salt to the wound.  Usually I think it’s because I haven’t had enough plain water, but even that isn’t helping me today.

+I’m so glad BONES is back on TV.  I was able to watch it yesterday on DVR while R took an afternoon snooze.  By the way… that was an oober long break, but hopefully that means it’ll continue to run once all my regular shows are on summer break.  PS:  I totally forgot Sweets died and it sucked that they brought it up – but I’m sure they were thinking we’d all forgotten that important detail anyway.

+These brownies though….

+I have a love/hate relationship with my maternity pants.  Pants with buttons and buckles are so not the business for our lil Chalupie girl, but at the same point spandex on the belly is tiring after the long weekdays that we have.  I think what bothers me the most is that the pant size bigger fits like a dream on my belly but are way too wide and frumpy on my legs.  The size I’m wearing is perfect, but lil Lups isn’t digging it after about 4 hours.

+It’s been 20 years since the beautiful Selena has left this crazy world.

+I have a three day work week this week!  I usually plan these things, but this one just kind of ended up that way for me.  Woo hoo! #vacayMonday #goodFriday

+Yesterday I had a burrito for lunch and it was AMAZEBALLS, I’m drooling thinking about it right now.  It reminded me of the big fat burritos I used to get when I lived in Portland.  My burrito had Spanish rice, black beans, chili verde, sour cream, cheese and cilantro.  AND… I ate that thing like a champ!! No spills.  It’s all about the technique!

+There is no doubt I feel my lil girl moving around every day, but whenever I’m lying down I put my hands on my stomach to see if I can feel her from the outside.  I thought I was this weekend and had R put his hands on my belly, but he can’t feel it yet L.  Boo nation.  Soon though, I hope!
+Lastly I’m glad that MerDer is still MerDer.  I mean, we don’t like depressed Meredith.

That's all she wrote! What's been going on with you?

Happy Weekend!

Friday, March 27, 2015

Happy Weekend!  It’s extra happy for me because I took Monday off as well.  We don’t have too much planned.  While my hunny is at work on Saturday, I have a pre-natal checkup in the morning and will probably catch up on my TV shows in the afternoon (Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, Bones - to name a few).  Maybe some decluttering – who knows? Sunday we’re going to go check out a new store that opened up recently and then we have some errands to run on Monday.  All in all it should be a relaxed weekend.

I really enjoyed this article about couples that don't fight (often).  When I started my relationship with R, I definitely wanted it to be different than ones from the past - and fighting was definitely a thing I wanted to work on, if for no one but myself.  I think it has really helped our relationship to weather the storms.  Granted we aren't perfect.  Some of the bullet points in the article are still items I need to work on, but I can definitely relate to it.

See you Monday (or wait, maybe Tuesday still I'll still be "weekend-ing")

Wednesday, March 25, 2015

So quick story before I get to the update.  I'm a picture-holic.  LOVE taking pictures of my every day life.  I mean, what blogger doesn't right?  So yesterday after breakfast I stole a couple pictures of R and I and after he was done making funny faces he grabbed my phone and snapped a couple of real pictures and then got this belly shot.  It was adorable and of course made my heart skip a beat.  Whose wouldn't?  But then he tells me, oh she wanted to take a picture too.  And if that didn't make my day, I don't know what would!  So there we are, all three of us.  First family photo? Haha!

Size of the Baby: Spaghetti Squash - really WTE? (8 inches, 1 pound)

Total Weight Gain: 11 pounds (down a pound).  It seems that I go through these gains and then plateau for a bit and then gain again.  Right now I'm on a plateau teetering between 1-3 pounds.

Gender: Girl (click here)

Nickname: "CHALUPIE"  So R nicknamed her Chalupie this week.  And I think it is kinda cute, more original and screams "us" so that's that. I asked him how are you going to explain this to your daughter when she is ten, and he replies, I'm gonna tell her that she is Chalupie and mom is Chalupa. So I reply with what's your next answer when she asks why I'm Chalupa. And he said oh.. long story.  So that's my explanation to you, long story!

Sleep: Still tossing and turning.  The worst part is that my bed is so soft that I literally need to push myself up and then turn and lay back down. GAH!  But I'm getting my new bed soon, and hopefully I can just roll this tummy over from side to side.  PS: The fetal position is so comfortable!  It cracks me up how your body changes and how you adjust when you're pregnant.

Craving: Nothing at the moment.  My tummy's been a little whacked out.  My appetite is super low, I have a bunch of left overs sitting in the fridge.

Missing: Nothing - I ended up having a little bit of raw fish after some research and so we're in the clear for now; although - it'll be game on once I pop this lil malasada out.  R already knows I want a pound of sashimi to share before we leave the hospital in July!

Symptoms: Just the tummy being a little uneasy.  One night it was so bad R literally made me just chill out for a night and we didn't even have dinner together.  I was super gassy and burping and the next day I had a bad case of nausea.  The nausea subsided but I still have a lower appetite than normal.

Looking Forward To: Stronger kicks.  I can feel them every day now, and I think I can feel them through my tummy when I'm lying down and have my hand there, but we haven't been able to catch her kicking while we're together.  And so I'm looking forward to daddy feeling her ASAP!  OH - and I have another check up on Saturday.  So far no questions in my notes app, they'll have a laugh at that cause I'm always prepared with a LIST of questions.

Best Moments: Feeling the love when R did those oober cheesy gender reveal shots with me and just let me be for a moment.  I really appreciated that!

PS: These bumpdates come at the "end" of the week so I can actually tell you about it.  So with that tomorrow I'll be 23 weeks! 17 more to go :)

Hello Spring!

Tuesday, March 24, 2015

Spring is here, and these are some of the things I'm looking forward to for the season!

+making a batch of deviled eggs
I was never a fan of deviled eggs or egg salad as a kid, but for the past two years I've entertained the idea of it and can throw down on some good, homemade deviled eggs!

+sunrises with my R
Since the sun is rising later and later

+reading a book on the beach
I imagine doing this on a late Saturday morning or early Saturday afternoon
+watching our little one grow in my belly
Because the little one is definitely making an appearance and everything is just happening quickly now days.
+growing my online business
I've finally found my rhythm with this thing and so now I'm just working on a few details and things should be ready to go.
+having my baby shower
I'll be having it in late May, early June I'd imagine.  My amazing friend Alicia is hosting it for me and I'm so excited.  I'm usually the one in control of these things and so it was definitely hard to let go of that - but I'm actually relieved because I just don't have the energy to plan a big shindig at the moment.
+prepping my home for my little miss
I'm dreading it, but not.  It'll feel good to get rid of a lot of unnecessary items in my house and make room for this lil girl.

+spending time with family next month
Family is flying in from Hilo and they are my favorites, so a good time will definitely be had!  Card games will be going.  We'll definitely be playing some bones and it'll be a time filled with fun, laughter and making unforgettable memories.
+learning more about typography and handlettering
This kind of goes hand in hand with growing my online business, but besides practice practice practice I'm ready to indulge in an online class or youtube videos galore this season!
+finding my way with this blogging thing again
For a while I've been quite MIA on this thing and a lot of it had to do with sensitivities to certain things going on in our personal lives, but now I'm just ready to fly free and share what is on my heart on this blog no matter who reads it.  At the same point, I've been wanting to re-define this blog and change the name but never got around to it.  However, with baby on the way, everything is much more clear and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

What are you looking forward to this season?

It's A ...

Monday, March 23, 2015

We're having a girl!  And we couldn't be more ecstatic.  We're really just happy the baby is healthy.

So the night before our anatomy scan (17 weeks 5 days), I had a dream that we were having a girl. It was an unusual dream like all of my dreams usually are - ie: My mom and R were in the ultrasound room and found out we were having a girl but I wasn't there.  They told me afterwards that we were having a girl, yet somehow I wasn't there.  I know - it's weird, but whatever.  Anyhow that's kind of funny because that was first dream I had where I "knew" the sex of the baby.  In other related news, sometime this past week I dreamed she was a boy - so I guess we'll double check on that at my next ultrasound appointment!

Ok so we did do them last weekend and I shared it on my Facebook and Instagram - so if you follow me there you can see it, but when I went to upload it on here - it just wasn't "blogworthy". I know kill me now.  That was a really vain statement.  But for real guys!  First of all - we had no one to take pictures so I propped my phone in a bush in my front yard and then just recorded the whole thing.  And then as I went through the video I screenshotted (cause that's a word in today's day and age) the shots that looked decent and created a quick collage.

So that's that.  Haha.  If you really want to see what dorks we are you can click over to the 'ol Instagram, but other than that - this is what you get! Bring on the ruffles and lace!

Confessions of a Momma-To-Be

Wednesday, March 18, 2015

#1 - I need to declutter my home.

#2 - I need to get my car detailed.

#3 - I need to work on my registry, majorly!

#4 - I'm scared I'll have a hard time losing my pregnancy weight.

#5 - I'm too lucky to have R by my side through this whole process.  He is a supportive, generous and loving man.

#6 - Listening to Lil Malasada's heart beat never gets old.

#7 - I'm anxious for Lil M's dad to feel movements as I'm now feeling them every day.

#8 - I'm at that awkward place where if you know I'm pregnant, you can see the lil bump - but if you don't know, I look extra fluffy. (Guess I need to remember to embrace the bass).

#9 - I'm not looking forward to paying for childcare once my maternity leave is up.

#10 - I have a lot to do in 18 weeks.

Happy Weekend: Links I Love

Friday, March 13, 2015

Definitely looking forward to the weekend.  I'm so ready to catch up on all my shows from the week on DVR, work on a project I hope to share with you all soon, do baby's gender reveal photos, get some errands done and just relax with R.  Also - I'm thinking brownies are a must this weekend.  Actually, probably tonight, with some rocky road ice cream we have in the freezer. YUM!

I'll be checking out these articles over my mid morning snack on Saturday and thought some of you may enjoy them too:

Week 20 Bumpdate

Thursday, March 12, 2015

More like a frumpdate!! Haha... People that know I'm pregnant can see tell, but if they don't know I'm pretty sure I just look frumpy and they want to tell me to put down the cookie!! OH WELL :)  On that note, this is the last of the baby over load posts!! I really just wanted to get caught up on the updates since I waited so long to share :).

I'll be sharing things other than JUST baby from here on out!  So let's get on with it, shall we?

Size of the Baby: Mango (6.5", 10 oz)

Total Weight Gain: 12 pounds

Gender: Found out on 2/17 at 17weeks, 5 days

Nickname: Lil Malasada (It took me forever to come up with baby’s own unique nickname to use since I can’t call baby by name yet (on social media), and so since R likes to “laugh with me” about how “Podagee” I act even though he has more Portuguese blood than I do, I thought lil malasada would be fitting since we always talk about certain traits we hope (or don’t hope) baby gets from us!

Sleep: Needing a pillow to support my frumpy tummy.  I still don’t see the bump even though some co-workers say they can tell.  Been tossing and turning this week and starting to get a little uncomfortable.

Craving: Yellow cake with chocolate frosting!  Actually, it’s been a few weeks, but I finally made it and have been ENJOYING it – and might be sharing with R.  Maybe…

Missing: Raw Ahi.  Really… I need to go to an AA meeting for raw fish withdrawals.

Symptoms: Experiencing some headaches, bloody nasal fluids (lol), back pain and I think I have a pinched nerve or something in my lower right back because whenever I get up from sleeping or sitting at my desk at work too long it takes a while before I can straighten out... I don't know!

Looking Forward To: Doing our gender reveal photos.

Best Moments: Feeling my lil malasada every now and again, though I won't fully admit it until others can feel the baby too!

The Second Trimester || Weeks 14-19

Wednesday, March 11, 2015

I was so excited to finally reach the second trimester in January.  I felt relief as it was another milestone in this being a pregnancy that will “stick”.  I was excited to see the nausea slowly dissipate into being non-existent.  I thought it was funny that my appetite though, would come and go.  Some days I felt like I was eating everything in sight, and other days I’d take two bites every 3-4 hours or so and be done.  It was so awkward.  I would feel bad if my low appetite would hit after we had ordered food or breakfast so I learned to listen more to my body, order light foods and that definitely worked better.

Weeks 14-19:
Total Weight Gain: 11 pounds

Gender: Found out on 2/17 at 17weeks, 5 days

Nickname: Lil Malasada (It took me forever to come up with baby’s own unique nickname to use since I can’t call baby by name yet (on social media), and so since R likes to “laugh with me” about how “Podagee” I act even though he has more Portuguese blood than I do, I thought lil malasada would be fitting since we always talk about certain traits baby we hope (or don’t hope) baby gets from us!

Sleep: Occassionally waking up to empty my bladder

Movement: In my 19th week I felt some things, but wasn't quite sure if it was baby or me imagining it.  I don't think it'll be real until I feel a full on kick that I can feel when my hand is on my tummy!

Craving:  Still random cravings

Missing: Ahi and a good Bloody Mary
Symptoms: Back Pain, Itchy Tummy, Congestion, Round Ligament Pains

Looking Forward To: Having a bump and not looking like a frump (or a chunk :-p)!

Best Moments: My anatomy scan!!! My quad marker screen came back with elevated risk for neural tube defects and spina bifida.  Naturally I was quite worried and a little anxious the two weeks I had to wait for my anatomy scan.  However, everything was perfect!  Baby measured exactly as that lil malasada should!  And we found out the gender which I’m waiting patiently to do my gender reveal pictures to announce!
